He's not spoiled

Okay, so the majority of the stuff that Bubbie got for Christmas is of the plastic variety, but we're working on getting things more eco-friendly one step at a time. I just had to post this picture of all of the stuff that he got from his grandparents and aunts and uncles. We only got him the Jumperoo, bath toys, and stuffed dinosaurs. The rest is from family! He's not spoiled or anything.

Finished Bubbie's Blocks

Here are the blocks I made for Bubbie. I finished them on Christmas morning during his first nap of the day. I think they turned out really cute! I like how they turned out so much that I'm planning on making them for my Etsy shop too.

Merry Christmas!

I know it's a day early, but Merry Christmas! I hope you have a wonderful day with your families. Oh, and Happy Hanukkah a couple of days late. :)

I apparently cannot do fractions

I'm making sugar cookies tonight from a mix. Yes, a mix - I shudder at this being that I usually make 3-5 different kinds of Christmas cookies from scratch. But, due to the fact that I am on leave this year, I have no one to share that many cookies with. I usually make all of those cookies as gifts for my principal, office staff, janitors, librarian, as well as share with our families.

So, after running out of time to make a plethora of cookies for family members, I decided to bust out a Betty Crocker sugar cookie mix that I got from my mom who got a gigantic box of 6 pouches from Costco. Anywho, there are instructions for making more than one pouch. I wanted to make 2 pouches at a time. I got the first batches done before Bubbie had to go to bed much to the delight of Brad who taste tested a couple and approved.

After Bubbie was in bed, I came downstairs and for some reason decided that I made the last batch wrong. I got it in my head that I had added too much butter. The mix called for 2/3 cup and I though I put in 1 1/3 cup. "Alright," I thought. "I'll just use the left overs from the sticks that I cut to make the batches correctly...." I made another batch and kept commenting that the dough was really dry and I think that recipe is wrong. Well, as the last tray was cooking, I realized something: I had to cut 2 sticks of butter to get 1/3 cup from each stick. I didn't get 2/3 cup from each stick. I also realized that the leftover pieces from the sticks I cut didn't even equal to the amount I thought I needed. Yeah. I apparently cannot do fractions or read and I'm a freaking science teacher! Needless to say, that second batch of cookies is hard as a rock and will be residing in our house. I miss my old cookies.

In the words of my 4 year old niece: "I'm freaking out here!"

B works for a small electrical company that has been doing pretty steady work for the past 10 years or so. With the economy the way it is, construction has slowed, a lot. I'm really nervous because according to the owner, if they don't get more work soon, the company will go under by February. Crap. So, everyone in the company has taken a pay cut. B is back in the field as well as managing projects. B had to let go of 2 guys last Friday taking their electricians down to 5 including B. He had 27 guys reporting to him last summer.

I'm just praying that the company stays afloat. So freaking out.

Update to Stupid Post Office

My buyer got her shoes on Thursday - almost a week after it said it was delivered. Weird. Now at least I don't have to make another pair of shoes and a blanket, for free.

Stupid Post Office!!

So I sold a pair of shoes along with a PIF blanket on my Etsy site. Yay!! I busted out the shoes in one evening and mailed them the day before Thanksgiving. I tracked it as its way across the country and on Saturday, it was delivered. All sounds great, right? Wrong. The woman who bought the shoes didn't get them. The package was delievered according the tracking number, but who knows what happened to it. Grr. Now I have to make another pair of shoes and a new blanket, ship them out, and pray that they actually get to the buyer.

On a lighter note, I won a free banner and logo for my shop from Seventeen Stone on Etsy for my PIF blanket! How rad is that?

Teething's other bit of fun

As I've said before, teething sucks. My poor little guy still doesn't have any teeth, but I believe the teething gods are striking again. He's been so drooly and chewing on EVERYTHING! Now, he's getting the fun of excess drool diaper rash. Basically the drool makes him poop way too much and his poor butt gets all red and painful. :( This started this morning and by this afternoon, every time we changed him and touched him with a wipe, he'd start screaming and crying. I'm hoping that we can get this under control tomorrow. I hate to see him in pain. I hope these teeth make their appearance soon because 3 weeks of this has be terrible. Damn you teething gods, damn you.

Fun blocks for Bubbie

I'm making Bubbie some fabric blocks for Christmas with that spell out his name. Here's the first one of 6. For some reason, the squares came out a little wonky, but I still think it's cute.

The sides with the letters are made of flannel. The print fabric is Michael Miller Retro Rocket Rascal and the white is minkee. Just have 5 more to go!

Jumperoo video

I thought I'd post the video of Bubbie's first time in his Jumperoo. When he first got in it, all he wanted to do was play with the toys. Then, he realized that "Hey! I can bounce in this thing!" So great.

Ladies and Gentemen, we have a pincher

Somehow, Bubbie's tiny baby hands have mastered the art of pinching. How he gets his hands around the skin on your neck or your hands is beyond me. And man, it hurts!! He got me this morning while he was eating his bottle. I have to face him out from me now so he can look around, but he still likes to reach back and grab. Sometimes, he'll grab my hair, but this morning he grabbed a handful of neck skin and pinched. It hurt sooo freaking bad.

Jumperoo I love you!

We got Bubbie a Jumperoo for Christmas and gave it to him early. I think it's the greatest thing ever. He loves it! I think he would stay in it for hours if we let him. Thank you Fisher Price for making such an awesome toy. :)

Moving over!

I've decided to move my blog over to blogger so, the previous posts are actually from my old blog. :)

Teething Sucks

It really does. Bubbie started teething last week and has been chewing on things and drooling like crazy for the past week. He had is 6 month shots yesterday and those were okay. Last night was pure hell though. During the day, there was no sign of a tooth, but I think it started to push through at around 11:30 last night. Bubbie kept waking up and crying in pain. It was terrible. This morning, there’s a little white bump on his gums. I’m hoping it pops through soon so he can feel better. His nose has been running and he just keeps crying. Thank god for baby Motrin and Orajel (we use the tiniest amount). Poor baby.

Happy Anniversary

Yesterday was B’s and my 2 year anniversary. If you would have asked me 2 years ago if we would have a 6 month old on this day, I would have told you that you were crazy. I wouldn’t change it for the world. It was our first anniversary as parents and a little different than we expected. Last year, we went out for a nice dinner, which I couldn’t drink at since I was pregnant. This year, we took Bubbie to Carter’s and got him some clothes and then had to deal with the fun of teething. Our fancy dinner was Pick Up Stix and B surprised me with a cake from Albertson’s. Oh how things have changed. :)

Happy Half Birthday Bubbie!

Little man is now 6th months old and I don’t know where the time has gone. Before I know it, he’ll be walking and talking. Yikes!

Bubbie is on the move!

Okay, he’s not crawling, but man has he mastered rolling. He’s rolling all over the crib at night and has started rolling around to get to things. I think he’s starting to cut some teeth though. Poor little guy (and Mom and Dad). Hopefully he won’t take too long.

Equality for all?

I’m so disappointed in California today. After voting for change and electing Obama as president, the majority of voters in California voted to take the rights away from gay and lesbian couples. I am disgusted in the fact that the CA constitution will be changed to single out these couples. I just don’t get it. I know some pretty stupid straight people who got married on a whim. Shockingly, they divorced. However, I also know some gay and lesbian couples who have been together as long as my parents. They love each other and are devoted to one another, yet, because of their sexual orientation, they are not allowed to marry. That’s such crap!! And for those people who say that it’s sinful for gay or lesbian couples to marry, I seem to remember that black and white people were not allowed to marry because people thought it was wrong. How is this any different? Grrrr…

Happy Halloween!

We had a great turn out this year for trick-or-treaters. B went all out again and made a graveyard in the front as well as decorated to the nines. We have this mummy that just stands there until you walk by and then its eyes light up and it starts making all of this noise. The little kids were pretty hesitant to walk up, but did with some coaxing. There were lots of screams from the older kids. It was great.

Last year, the smoke from the fires that burned up San Diego kept a lot of kids home. We were pretty bummed. But, it turned out great this year. Yay!

Bubbie’s costume was so cute - he was Robin. He got to “help” pass out candy for a little while before bed. (He was carried to the door and held while I gave out candy.) B and I can’t wait for him to be big enough to really enjoy it. Halloween is B’s favorite holiday. I think we’re going to be 50’s folk next year, with me in a poodle skirt, and B and Bubbie as greasers. I’m already planning…

Boo!

I’m so bummed today. After not working since May, I have to find a part time job to help with the bills. Now, I know that this sounds whiny, but I am whining!! I love being at home with little man every day and I’m not looking forward to having to substitute a couple of days a week as well as work a retail job. I just need to come into a ridiculous amount of money so B and I never have to work again. Anyone feeling generous?

I'm still tired!

So Vegas was a lot of fun. I’m still kind of recovering from the debauchery. It was actually a lot tougher to leave little man then I thought it would be. I was in tears a couple of times, but I’m glad I went. B did great with him. Right before I left, I made my first 2 sales on my etsy page so I was super excited. Granted, they were to friends, but I did sell something. Yay!

We've got diapers!

We got our order of Bum Genius diapers yesterday and I’m super excited. We started using them this morning and so far have not had too bad of a time with them. Little man did decide to christen 2 of them with number 2, which is weird for him. (He usually only goes once a day.) I did have these flushable liners in the diapers so it wasn’t too bad. He doesn’t seem to mind their fluffiness. :P

Vegas Baby!

So, I’m going to Vegas tomorrow with 3 of my bestest friends. I feel a little torn over that fact that I’m leaving little man with B for 3 days when he’s only 5 months old. I know that B will just fine with him, but I kind of feel like I’m being a bad mom. My friends and I had planned this trip a long time ago and I guess I didn’t think leaving little man with be so hard, even for just a few days. I should have a good time though, when I’m not worried about my little guy.

Cloth Diapers are a Go!

B and I have decided to switch over to using cloth diapers. We are currently waiting on an order of Bum Genius One Size V 3.0 pocket diapers. I’m so excited to start using them instead of disposables. We end up having to buy a big box every two weeks at $40 a pop!

I know what you’re thinking “cloth? eww!!” but they are so much better now than back in the day. The diapers we are using do not need a cover, pins, or be swirled in the toilet (ew!). It’s an all in one diaper with Velcro, a waterproof outer layer, adjustable snaps, and a pocket to insert various levels of absorbent pads. And can I say that they are so much cuter than disposables. We are waiting on a KCK One diaper from Etsy that has a triceratops on the butt! Hello!! That’s so cute!

Hello World!

So, I’ve decided to start a blog to talk all about my new role in life as a stay at home mom (SAHM). After teaching for 4 years, the birth of my son put my teaching days on hold. I love being at home with the little guy and couldn’t be happier. I don’t know when or if I’ll return to the teaching world.
