He's not spoiled

Okay, so the majority of the stuff that Bubbie got for Christmas is of the plastic variety, but we're working on getting things more eco-friendly one step at a time. I just had to post this picture of all of the stuff that he got from his grandparents and aunts and uncles. We only got him the Jumperoo, bath toys, and stuffed dinosaurs. The rest is from family! He's not spoiled or anything.

Finished Bubbie's Blocks

Here are the blocks I made for Bubbie. I finished them on Christmas morning during his first nap of the day. I think they turned out really cute! I like how they turned out so much that I'm planning on making them for my Etsy shop too.

Merry Christmas!

I know it's a day early, but Merry Christmas! I hope you have a wonderful day with your families. Oh, and Happy Hanukkah a couple of days late. :)

I apparently cannot do fractions

I'm making sugar cookies tonight from a mix. Yes, a mix - I shudder at this being that I usually make 3-5 different kinds of Christmas cookies from scratch. But, due to the fact that I am on leave this year, I have no one to share that many cookies with. I usually make all of those cookies as gifts for my principal, office staff, janitors, librarian, as well as share with our families.

So, after running out of time to make a plethora of cookies for family members, I decided to bust out a Betty Crocker sugar cookie mix that I got from my mom who got a gigantic box of 6 pouches from Costco. Anywho, there are instructions for making more than one pouch. I wanted to make 2 pouches at a time. I got the first batches done before Bubbie had to go to bed much to the delight of Brad who taste tested a couple and approved.

After Bubbie was in bed, I came downstairs and for some reason decided that I made the last batch wrong. I got it in my head that I had added too much butter. The mix called for 2/3 cup and I though I put in 1 1/3 cup. "Alright," I thought. "I'll just use the left overs from the sticks that I cut to make the batches correctly...." I made another batch and kept commenting that the dough was really dry and I think that recipe is wrong. Well, as the last tray was cooking, I realized something: I had to cut 2 sticks of butter to get 1/3 cup from each stick. I didn't get 2/3 cup from each stick. I also realized that the leftover pieces from the sticks I cut didn't even equal to the amount I thought I needed. Yeah. I apparently cannot do fractions or read and I'm a freaking science teacher! Needless to say, that second batch of cookies is hard as a rock and will be residing in our house. I miss my old cookies.

In the words of my 4 year old niece: "I'm freaking out here!"

B works for a small electrical company that has been doing pretty steady work for the past 10 years or so. With the economy the way it is, construction has slowed, a lot. I'm really nervous because according to the owner, if they don't get more work soon, the company will go under by February. Crap. So, everyone in the company has taken a pay cut. B is back in the field as well as managing projects. B had to let go of 2 guys last Friday taking their electricians down to 5 including B. He had 27 guys reporting to him last summer.

I'm just praying that the company stays afloat. So freaking out.

Update to Stupid Post Office

My buyer got her shoes on Thursday - almost a week after it said it was delivered. Weird. Now at least I don't have to make another pair of shoes and a blanket, for free.

Stupid Post Office!!

So I sold a pair of shoes along with a PIF blanket on my Etsy site. Yay!! I busted out the shoes in one evening and mailed them the day before Thanksgiving. I tracked it as its way across the country and on Saturday, it was delivered. All sounds great, right? Wrong. The woman who bought the shoes didn't get them. The package was delievered according the tracking number, but who knows what happened to it. Grr. Now I have to make another pair of shoes and a new blanket, ship them out, and pray that they actually get to the buyer.

On a lighter note, I won a free banner and logo for my shop from Seventeen Stone on Etsy for my PIF blanket! How rad is that?
